cheers to ryan crown for the wee Sketchy vid - shot a few weeks ago.....and cheers to sasha, sarah, chris and mark for disguising their levels of drunkenness successfully.
GUESTLIST FOR TOMORROW (july 15) NOW OPEN! USE THE WEE FORM IN THE LEFT HAND CORNER....
please only ask for yourself, one request per IP address and priority given to anyone who posts stuff on this blog....
tomorrow night joe 'piefinger' dougan joins me (rigsy) in the main room.
i asked him to tell me about ten tracks he's looking forward to playing and within literally a few hours, he got back to me with this little lot....
Robyn - Don't fucking tell me what to do (Mylo Remix)
This is the kind of Robyn stuff i was always more into, reminds me of Konichiwa Bitches title track, Mylos rework makes it a whole lot nastier.
Bloody Beetroots - Awesome
Bloody Beetroots + The Cool Kids, was always going to be awesome TBF
Gorillaz - Superfast Jellyfish
Best track on Plastic Beach, impossible not to dance to unless you've recently had knee surgery.
Sleigh Bells - Rill Rill
this is the best song i've heard in ages. it sounds like brilliant.
Biffy Clyro - Bubbles
We're getting very excited about the Belsonic show, the Oxegen coverage sounded lovely, this is the best tune on their new LP for me
Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
Does anyone not like this song??
Japanese Popstars + Jon Spencer - Destroy
Sleazy, dancey, creepy, very exciting new single from Japstars featuring one of the best rock and roll songwriters of the last 20 years.
Marina + Diamonds - I'm not a robot (Doorly Remix)
i still listen to this all the time. marina annoys the hell out of me but it's a good song and made much better with doorlys dancehall-tastic remix
MIA - XX XO (JayZ Remix)
Lovely stuff from new MIA album, and her poppiest tune yet imo
3Oh3 + Kesha - My first kiss
I don't care what anyone says about this song, it's the best chart tune i've heard this year, insanely catchy,
if you don't like it you are dead.
ta joe....

ALSO, I (RIGSY) AM STARTING A NEW WEEKLY CLUB NIGHT IN NEWRY CALLED 'SHIFT'.
YEO.
it starts this saturday and myself, the two pauls and johnny tiernan for AU will all be down to play. so if you're near there any weekend, call in. guestlist and stuff is HERE though i'm happy to take names via this blog....
that said - after our tribute blog to q-tip last week, thought it'd be a good idea to do something similar with another artiste who's responsible for a lot of stuff we play at the club - the legendary armand van helden.
PLEASE NOTE - NEITHER OF THESE MEN ARE DEAD.
top armand tunes then?
well, we've been hammering his remix of queen-melter uffie lately, which has the added treat of including a vocal from pharell williams, a man i'd quite possible go a bit gay for.
last year i was hammering his remix of ou est le swimming pool, the perfect example of how he can draw out something tiny from a track, give it a makeover and make it slap you in face.
then there's ducksauce, a craic-attack project he has with a-trak. barbara streisand's got a few goes at sketchy, but it's hard to beat aNyway. it's the tits.
and whether it's the doorly remix, the soulwax edit or the original, 'bonkers' still sounds fresh. thats him saying the buzzword n' all :-)
'my my my' and 'NYC beat' have been dropped a good bit, but they're just okay. 'you don't know me' is the titz. yes, with a Z this time.
'witch doktor' is kinda where it all started, and it sounds as good as the prodigy around that time. which is very good indeed.
having said that, my first AVH treat was the now legendary 'professional widow' remix. have you heard the original? it's rubbish. and about the last thing you'd expect. armand gave it a serious seeing to, then never called.
THATS QUITE A LOT OF GOOD TUNES, ISN'T IT?
he's also remixed daft punk, simian mobile disco and a loada others....with varying degrees of awesome-ness.
but for the above he deserves to be high-fived to death. even if he is a bit of a twat (supposedly).
bye then!
GUESTLIST NOW CLOSED!!!!!

this week, for no reason other than the sketchy crew are all loving the new mark ronson single, we thought a tribute to the even-more-awesome-than-you'd-think Q-TIP was in order.
after the jigga, Q-Tip is probably the most familiar flow you'll hear at sketchy, given he appears on all of the following ludicrously good tunes, each of which has been hammered at sketchy in the last five years:
the chemical brothers - galvanize
a tribe called quest - award tour
deee-lite - groove is in the heart
q-tip - vivrant thing
NERD - she wants to move (remix)
a tribe called quest - can i kick it?
q-tip - breathe and stop
de la soul - a rollerskating jam named 'saturday'
nas - one love
obvious choices, and the tip of the iceberg, folks.
WAT?
q-tip is the tits.

it's exactly ten years ago to the day since the first ever sketchy!!!!
to mark such a momentous occasion (you'll probably hear about it on CNN later) we're doubling the guestlist both here, over at our facebook page (message will go out tonight so join up!) and on my twitter.
but first up - fill in the form on this page (please just ask for yourself and try and give a request)
for the record then.... sketchy started life in a bar in newcastle, set up by myself and my mate rich, with bands and DJs playing every week for a month, when it became obvious no one really cared. in january 2002 it move to auntie annies - on wednesday nights for a year we had some of our favourite northern irish bands play alongside various DJs. then we moved to the menagerie for monthly parties on a saturday night. next we took over the second room at the garrick bar at a club run by phil kieran and myself called 'bender'.
then, in november 2005, sketchy started at the stiff kitten :-)
been an interesting few years.....
